High School Instructors
An Exciting Professional Development Opportunity
Thinking about participating in Wildcat Writers? This program can offer:
- An insider's look into what is taught in first-year college composition, so you can better prepare your students
- An opportunity for your students to build relationships with college students, ask questions about college life, and visit campus
- Continuing education credits for you
- The chance to collaborate professionally with a college writing teacher
Overview
if you choose to participate in Wildcat Writers, your students will each be paired with a first year English composition student at the University of Arizona. Together, you and your college partner instructor will design assignments that fit with both teachers' goals. There is a lot of freedom in the partnership-- some teacher pairs collaborate extensively, having their students read and exchange ideas on the same texts or co-author writing assignments. Others connect the classes more loosely, having students write periodic emails to one another or exchange work for feedback. You will be paired with your partner teacher in October, leaving plenty of time to design units that work for both of you before the students begin interacting with one another in January. We provide samples and suggestions of what has worked in the past (available in the Instructor Resources section), but Wildcat Writers also encourages pedagogical innovation.
Note: Once you have officially committed to the program, we ask that you remain committed through the Spring semester. We are available to troubleshoot any problems or concerns-- see contact information at the bottom of this page.
