Introducing Students to Wildcat Writers
We suggest introducing students to the partnership early. For college instructors, we recommend informing students of the partnership on the first day of class and including a description of Wildcat Writers in the syllabus. This allows students who do not wish to invest in the partnership to change to a different composition course. Here is an example of how an English 102 instructor, Anna Varley, explained WIldcat Writers to her students in the syllabus:
- Mentoring: You will work with at least one high school student at Desert View HIgh School. You will guide your mentee though the process of writing a personal narrative-- an assignment you will complete in Unit 1. In return, these students will help you reflect on the meaning of community in order to prepare to you write your documented argument essay. This partnership will require that you email your mentees in a timely manner and that you keep up with all mentoring-related assignments.
